Listen up, agent: The Division 2 just got its biggest expansion since Warlords of New York. Echoes of Central Park launched on Tuesday, November 3, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Ubisoft Store, Steam and Epic Games Store), and it is also playable with a Ubisoft+ subscription.
For the first time in franchise history, you can explore New York’s Upper West Side and Central Park itself. According to Ubisoft, the map is much larger than Battle for Brooklyn’s, and the story is set in the summer after Warlords of New York.
A new tone: horror
Ubisoft says fear is the heart of the expansion. Upper West Side residents are gripped by paranoia, faction members, friends and family turn up dead or missing in gruesome ways, and there are rumours of a new virus variant. Everything points to the park, which was used as a mass burial ground during the initial outbreak and is now home to a new apex threat.
The story is told as a flashback, with a narrator guiding you through her version of events. You can play solo or in co-op, and players below level 40 get a boost to jump straight in. Missions take you to landmarks such as the Natural History Museum, from Lincoln Square to the Dakota District.
Three companions for the park
The DLC introduces three Companions, one of whom can join your party at a time: Brayleigh Callahan, a Sniper, MIT graduate and Olympic shooting medalist; Elwood Franklin, a Protector and former mall cop who wants to join the NYPD; and Morse Feeney, an Assault, a rugged veteran and former first-wave Division agent with a mysterious past.
In the endgame, the outcome of each encounter shapes what comes next: do well and you earn exclusive rewards, do poorly and you carry a disadvantage. There are also six new skill variants, including the Corrosive Trap and the Gas Bomber, a new Gear Set and the Ratel exotic weapon. At launch, Prototype Gear is normalized inside the DLC, and Ubisoft plans to enable its full strength there later.
Price
On Steam, Echoes of Central Park costs $19.99, and the Deluxe DLC, with outfits inspired by the three companions and a skin for the new exotic weapon, costs $29.99 (prices checked on November 4). The base game is required, and the DLC also adds 50 stash slots.
