Bungie details the return of Destiny 2’s vaulted content, running into 2028, and says not to buy Marathon as a donation

Guardians, gather up: Bungie has published its plan to bring back the old Destiny 2 content that was “vaulted” over the years. The post comes from Josh Deane, head of product, who calls the project a first step to win back the community’s trust and make Destiny 2 “whole” again.

The first wave restores the Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken campaigns, with those expansions’ Strikes, Raids and Raid Lairs, plus Menagerie with its reprised rewards. Then come the “stretch goals”, which need more work: free-roam destinations (with public events, Lost Sectors and Escalation Protocol), seasonal activities from Seasons 9 to 23, updated raid weapons and vaulted PvP maps. It is a long road: the full process runs into early 2028.

In the same post, Deane wrote that nothing would help Bungie’s future more than Marathon, the studio’s new extraction shooter, evolving fast and becoming sustainable. Some players read it as a call to buy Marathon just to save Destiny, and he clarified on X: “in no way is the Destiny plan contingent upon Marathon” and “don’t buy Marathon as a donation.” In short: play what you like, and Bungie promises to work on both. More on Destiny’s future comes early next year.
