Anyone who has followed the series since that first city around the generator knows the cold never lets up. 11 bit studios announced that The Surge, the third expansion for Frostpunk 2, launches on December 14 on PC and consoles. The date appears in the studio’s announcement and on the DLC’s Steam page.
A valley hidden in the ice
The Surge is a major, story-driven scenario with branching choices. After a journey through the frozen remnants of the USA, your people reach a mysterious valley, drawn by rumours of a marvel left behind by history’s greatest mind: a relic capable of reshaping the world itself. There, the search for answers goes deep into the ice.
The gameplay hook is a brand-new resource that promises to take city automation to unprecedented levels. Using storm-driven technology, catastrophic whiteouts become harvested and stored resources: the weather that was always the enemy now works for you. The Steam page also mentions two new factions feuding over the future, and there are caves and ruins to explore, with hidden treasures and the valley’s mysteries. 11 bit says more details will come closer to launch; the DLC’s price has not been announced.
The end of support and the series’ future
The announcement carries an important note for fans: after The Surge, future support for Frostpunk 2 will be limited to maintenance. The universe carries on, though, with Frostpunk 1886 and an unannounced title in a new genre.
11 bit publisher sale
Alongside the announcement, 11 bit kicked off a publisher sale with deals on Frostpunk 2, The Alters and its DLC, Moonlighter and more. On Steam, Frostpunk 2 is $20.24, 55% off its $44.99 list price (checked on November 3). A good moment to pick up the base game before the expansion arrives.
