Anyone who has followed MMORPGs since the LAN-café days knows a pretty trailer does not hold anyone for long; what convinces is seeing the game run. That was the bet Kakao Games and Chrono Studio made for the return of Chrono Odyssey: on Monday, November 2, they released unedited footage from the current development build, showing a single player taking on Miragin, a never-before-seen Chrono Gate boss, solo.
No supercut, no highlight reel: one player, one boss, start to finish. It is the first new look at the game in months.
The Paladin, and time as a weapon
The video also reveals the Paladin class for the first time, a fighter with a long spear and a shield. It shows chained spear attacks, a skill that summons a massive spear onto the boss, and the shield blocking incoming attacks to mitigate damage.
The highlight is two Chronotector movements, the game’s time-manipulation device: Replicate temporarily recreates the combat skills of bosses you have already defeated to use against enemies, and Isolation freezes an enemy in time for a limited period, restricting its movement. In the fight, both are used to control the boss and create openings.
“We didn’t want to come back with just another trailer. We wanted to come back with the game,” said Kwon, executive producer at Chrono Studio. “Chrono Gates are where Chrono Odyssey asks the most of you, so it felt right to let one fight speak for where we are.”
Slated for 2027
Chrono Odyssey is an open-world action MMORPG built in Unreal Engine 5 and set in Setera, a world fractured by time. It is slated for Q2 2027 on PC and console, and players can already wishlist it on Steam. Kakao Games notes the footage comes from an in-development build and content may change before release.
Kwon added that there is “a lot more to show” in the months ahead.
