Anyone who remembers imported Super Nintendo cartridges knows the SaGa series as that unusual Japanese RPG that rarely made it overseas. The remake of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, released in 2024, has now passed 1 million units sold, according to Square Enix. It is the first game in the series to reach that mark since SaGa Frontier, and the milestone came with a new illustration by Yoshiro Ambe.
And the line keeps moving: Square Enix also showed more of Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, the next remake, arriving on February 16, 2027 on Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Five new companions were introduced: the Minstrel, a playful wandering bard; Tatyana, a mysterious girl who gives a different name at every meeting; Nora, who runs Pidona’s blacksmith workshop; and Muse, the last survivor of House Claudius, who lives in the old quarter alongside Charl, a former Imperial Guard captain and her personal bodyguard.
In battle and progression, the additions include the Renown system, which unlocks more skill slots and United Attacks as you complete quests; the Pidona Workshop, for forging and reforging gear by finding blacksmiths scattered around the world; the fun Mr. S, a familiar franchise face hidden across the map who gives stickers with perks; formations new to the series, such as Triple Incisors and Rampaging Mammoth; and Ley Lines, elemental attunements that strengthen spells of the matching school.
The Digital Deluxe Version includes extra outfits, gear and formations, plus up to 72 hours of early access for those who buy before launch. Pre-orders and early purchases also include the Bonus Accessories Set.
