Some games win you over with their size, others with their idea: Where the Seeds Fall is the second kind. The action-adventure about falling through the branches of a giant tree is the first title from CygamesEdge, the new label from Japan’s Cygames for small and mid-sized teams, and it is available now on PS5 and Steam since November 4 and on Nintendo Switch 2 since November 5 (12 a.m. PST). The MSRP is $9.99, and the game is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.

Read the wind before you jump

What stands out is the core mechanic: instead of climbing, you descend. Alongside a mysterious “Fell Child”, the protagonist plunges through the precarious branches of the World Tree, navigates crumbling platforms, braces against strong winds and tries to land on steady ground. Every jump is a small risk calculation, and the studio itself talks about “leaps of faith” to reach the surface.

A lovely detail lies in the story. The world has been ravaged by a plague called the Blight, and humanity built new homes upon the branches of the tree. In that place, “Fell Children” are branded as omens of disaster. The protagonist, a soldier who has lost everything, encounters one who closely resembles the daughter he once had, and goes against orders to escort her down to the surface world. You can see the care in turning a platforming mechanic into a relationship between two characters.

The main story is compact: the Steam page lists about three hours, and the studio describes it as a “densely packed” narrative experience meant for a single playthrough. After clearing it, higher-difficulty maps and time trials open up. A demo has been on Steam since October 16, and Cygames uploaded the opening movie, which introduces the story and the world, to YouTube.

What CygamesEdge is

Development is by CygamesEdge itself together with ZEREO Inc., and publishing is by Cygames, the home of Granblue Fantasy, Uma Musume and Shadowverse. The label launches under the tagline “Stay on the edge” and, according to the company, channels Cygames’ development expertise into small and mid-scale projects, with the freedom to create “unique, experimental titles”, a focus on strong core mechanics and state-of-the-art technology. Where the Seeds Fall is the calling card for that pitch.

If you follow Cygames here, Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond launched in Latin America in October. And the Switch 2 had a busy week: Stellar Blade Complete Edition arrived on the console on November 5, and our list of November releases shows what is still to come.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
