Behold, my friends: the game that only existed as a cloud version on the original Switch now runs natively on Nintendo Switch 2. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition launches this Thursday, November 5, developed by Eidos-Montréal and published by CDE Entertainment, according to the official eShop listing.

The adventure originally launched in October 2021 and won Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2021. You play as Star-Lord and give orders to Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot in and out of combat, in an original story that does not follow the movies.

What’s new in the Encore Edition

This edition is exclusive to Switch 2 and includes a new set of outfits for all five Guardians, inspired by 1980s glam rock. The official description promises smooth performance, refined controls and seamless handheld play, plus optional motion controls.

The numbers, my friends, are deliciously hefty: the estimated download is 45 GB. Check your free space (or get a microSD Express card ready) before the late-night session. The game supports TV, tabletop and handheld modes, HDR on compatible TVs and linear PCM surround sound.

Price and languages

On the US Nintendo eShop, the regular price is $39.99. Until launch eve, the pre-order carried a 10% discount at $35.99 (prices checked on November 4); check the eShop page to see whether the offer still applies when you buy.

Supported languages include American English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese and more. In the US, the game is rated for language, mild blood, mild suggestive themes, use of alcohol and violence.

In practice, this means…

…that Nintendo-only players who skipped the 2021 cloud version can now play the full campaign without relying on a connection. Eidos-Montréal is also behind another recent return: the studio is working with Nightdive on Thief: The Dark Project Remastered, out in December.

Hardware, PC and performance

Doutor Overclock claims a PhD in thermal dissipation; the diploma, curiously, has never left the lab. He covers hardware, PC requirements, performance patches and upscalers, and turns spec sheets into plain English. He apologizes in advance for the dry joke in the third paragraph.
