Activision has laid out Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1, which goes live on Friday, November 6 at midnight ET (9 p.m. PT on November 5) across all platforms. It is the update that fully folds the free-to-play battle royale into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and it brings a lot with it: two new maps, new gear and the series’ debut on Nintendo Switch 2, free to play.
Warzone on Switch 2, goodbye to last gen
With Season 1, Warzone launches on Switch 2 alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with every map and playlist from the other platforms. At the other end, the game will no longer be playable on PS4 and Xbox One, as we reported earlier this week. Progress is not lost: log in on a supported platform with the same linked Activision account and it carries over.
What changes with Modern Warfare 4
The integration resets Player Level, now shared across Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone, with optional Prestige. The arsenal gets all 33 Modern Warfare 4 launch weapons plus the Season 1 additions, each with Weapon Prestige and Warzone-specific Mastery Camos. Tactical Sprint becomes available to every Operator without a Perk (with a slightly shorter duration), players can drag downed allies while reviving them, and the update also tunes footstep audio, visibility and weapon balance.
Older content is safe: Operators, weapon Blueprints and cosmetics from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 carry forward, with older weapons in the Legacy tab of the Loadout menu. They stay usable, but cannot be edited in Gunsmith.
Hajin, Zodiac and the return of Verdansk
Hajin is the new Battle Royale map and Warzone’s first on the Korean Peninsula, tied to the Modern Warfare 4 campaign. It spans 13 major points of interest on both sides of the border, including the 14th Political Prison, Chang-san Air Base and Deadtown, with variable weather (fog, wind, rain) and a new 1v1 Gulag in two symmetrical variants, now with ground-level spectating.
Zodiac is the new Resurgence map, built by Beenox in close collaboration with Infinity Ward around the DRC Advanced Systems drone manufacturing headquarters. It has ten points of interest, including Admin, Furnace, R&D and Trackline, a double railway with moving trains. Verdansk returns mid-season with new landmarks, and Rebirth Island also rejoins the Resurgence rotation.
Ziplines, drones and modes
The new Field Upgrades are the Zipline Launcher, which strings ziplines between rooftops (you can fire your pistol on the way), and the Grabber Drone, which picks up loot, objects and even a downed teammate. Elite Perks and Ground Ops, with high-value safes and legendary loot chests, round out the list. Battle Royale and Resurgence stay as the core modes, with Casual versions, and the season opens with three limited-time modes, including Rally Point for new and returning players; more Resurgence variants arrive during the season.
