This one hit hard: Spirit Circle, the manga by Mizukami Satoshi (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, Sengoku Youko), is getting an 18-episode TV anime, and it premieres as soon as December 2026, on Japanese TV and in global streaming at the same time. REMOW made the announcement on Thursday (November 5) with the opening of the official website and X account, a teaser video, a teaser visual, the main cast and the staff. Streaming platforms have not been revealed yet.
The project carries extra weight: it is the final directorial work of Satō Tatsuo, the name behind Martian Successor Nadesico, Stellvia and Atom: The Beginning, who died in April this year. Satō is credited as director and series composer, and the production was completed, in the words of the press release, “under the leadership of” assistant director Mizuno Kentarō (Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress, Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!!). Character design is by Fujimoto Satoru (Symphogear), animation is by studios NAGOMI and EOTA, both part of the Twin Engine group, and Twin Engine produces.
Cast and music
The main cast came straight in the teaser: Ura Kazuki is Okeya Fūta, Nagase Anna is Ishigami Kōko, Yukimura Eri is Rune and Nakamura Yūichi is East. Nagase also sings the ending theme, “No Matter the World” (“Koko ga Donna Sekai Demo”), written specifically for the series and previewed in the video.
The story
Okeya Fūta is a middle school student who can see spirits. Apart from that, and the bandage he always wears on his cheek, he is an ordinary 14-year-old boy, smitten with the new transfer student, Ishigami Kōko. The trouble is that when she sees the birthmark hidden under the bandage, she changes completely: she declares Fūta her enemy and says the mark is a curse she herself carved into his face in one of their many past lives. “I’ll destroy your soul and break the cycle of reincarnation,” she warns in the teaser.
To understand what happened, Fūta uses the “Spirit Circle”, a mysterious device that lets him relive his previous lives. The journey crosses several eras, from ancient civilizations to the far future, and in each one Fūta and Kōko meet again, with other faces and other names, and fall into conflict once more. The official release leaves the question open: when all the secrets are finally revealed, will their intertwined destinies lead to destruction or salvation?
The manga
Spirit Circle ran in Shōnengahōsha’s Young King OURs from May 2012 to March 2016 and has six volumes. Crunchyroll published the chapters simultaneously in English from 2014, and Seven Seas Entertainment released the print English edition. Mizukami has seen two other works adapted in recent years: Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer in 2022 and Sengoku Youko, over three cours, in 2024. Now it is the turn of the story many fans consider the author’s tightest, closed in a few volumes with a clear beginning, middle and end.
December is shaping up to be busy for anyone following premieres: we also covered the Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite anime, the second part of Romelia War Chronicle and the new Girls Band Cry movie. All our anime and manga news is on the anime page.
