A vampire who spent 30 years shut in at home and only comes out to live the otaku life? As a married man, a father and the head of a family, I should simply find this “cute”. But I confess: a pretty girl, a tempting neck and an affectionate bite… the premise has its appeal. Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite (Oshi ni Amagami), the manga by Julietta Suzuki, is getting a TV anime. ShoPro Entertainment made the announcement on Wednesday, November 4, with a teaser video and promotional visual.
Why November 4
The date was no accident. In Japanese, 11/04 can be read as “ii oshi”, roughly “good favorite”, and oshi is exactly the word fans use for their favorite character or idol, the heart of this story. The studio, cast and premiere date have not been revealed yet.
The story
After 30 years as a shut-in, the vampire Hina moves to Japan to enjoy otaku activities. There she meets her neighbor, Kyuta Amanatsu, a boy who looks just like her favorite character. What’s more, his blood is something special, irresistible to vampires everywhere. As other vampires show up with their sights set on Kyuta, his relationship with Hina takes an unexpected turn. Is she fangirling, or falling in love?
Suzuki first published a one-shot in April 2022 and launched the series in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine in November 2022. Volume 10 shipped on July 17, and volume 11 arrives on November 20. In North America, Viz Media publishes the manga in English and will release volume 9 on December 1.
From the creator of Kamisama Kiss
Julietta Suzuki created Kamisama Kiss, which ran in the same Hana to Yume from 2008 to 2016 for 25 volumes and inspired two anime seasons and four OADs. Romantic vampires are in season: this week Hiragi-san’s House of Vampires was also announced as an anime.
