Heads up! Artist Tetsu Ōkawa said on X on Saturday (October 31) that Sakamoto Holidays, the comedy spinoff of Sakamoto Days, is “at its climax.” In the same post he noted that chapter 28 runs in this month’s issue of the magazine and that chapter 29 gets opening color pages. He told readers not to miss “the fate of the shopping arcade,” which says plenty about how big the fight is this time.

What the spinoff is about

Sakamoto Holidays shows the laid-back side of Sakamoto Taro, the legendary former hit man who quit crime to get married, raise a daughter and run a neighborhood store. In Ōkawa’s series he becomes a guardian of sorts for the neighborhood: he solves small crimes in the Ikoraizaka shopping arcade and tries to make it the most peaceful street in town, always with the loyal Shin at his side and without spilling a drop of blood, since he promised his wife, Aoi, he would never kill again. The fun is watching the most dangerous man in the underworld deal with shoplifters, local gangs and housework, all while keeping his daughter, Hana, in the dark.

The manga launched in Shueisha’s monthly Saikyō Jump magazine in July 2024 and has four compiled volumes in Japan; the fourth shipped on August 4. Viz Media publishes the series in English and released the second volume on August 18.

What about the original Sakamoto Days?

The main series by Yuto Suzuki is close to its ending too. It has run in Weekly Shonen Jump since November 2020, started its “final battle” in August 2025 and announced in July that it is heading to its climax. Volume 29 shipped in Japan on Wednesday (November 4), and the franchise passed 18 million copies in circulation worldwide in August.

The anime, produced by TMS Entertainment, aired its first season in two parts in 2025, also streaming on Netflix, and the second season premieres in January 2027. Jump is full of endings right now: Kemono Jihen is nearing its climax as well. If you want to read Shueisha manga for free, the MANGA MILLION campaign is a good place to start.
