A lovely detail to start with: Hokko Spaces never asks you to hurry. The new game from Wonderscope Games, published by Team17, launched on Thursday, October 29, on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. It is a spin-off of Hokko Life, the same team’s life sim, but this time the focus is entirely on creating.

The idea is to build miniature diorama-style worlds full of detail: a cosy woodland corner, the perfect picnic spot in town, or any scene you can imagine. You can adjust the time of day, the weather and the seasons, from sakura drifting on a spring evening to the first frost on a winter morning. What stands out is how each change transforms the mood of the whole scene.

As your spaces grow, residents start to appear. They are unlocked by completing simple, relaxing goals, and then they wander, unwind and interact with the objects you placed, bringing each scene to life. When everything feels right, camera mode has filters, framing and focus to capture your favourite moments and share them.

Hokko Spaces supports Brazilian Portuguese, English, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese, among other languages, according to its Steam page. The original Hokko Life is also available on Steam for anyone who wants to try where it all started.

For fans of cosy decorating and building games, it is a good companion for the longer nights at the end of the year.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
