Time to head back behind bars! During the Triple-i Initiative Showcase, team17 announced The Escapists 3, the sequel to the award-winning prison escape series. It’s coming to PC and consoles in 2027, and it’s now fully 3D.

The Escapists 3 – announcement trailer

Five prisons and over 120 weapons

Inmates will need to craft, sneak, fight and improvise their way through five distinct prisons to plan the perfect escape, and then pull off a much less perfect one when it all goes wrong. There are more than 120 new weapons to steal and craft, guard rotations to learn and systems to exploit. There’s no single solution to each escape: just good plans, bad plans and the occasional plan involving molten chocolate.

Group breakouts and progression

You can break out with friends: two players in local split screen and up to four online. And, new to the series, inmates gain XP as they play, unlocking skills and options to specialize in escape styles, with progress that carries over to every prison.
