A bullet hell where winning means making the land bloom again rather than shooting enemies down: Air Hares launches today, October 29, on Nintendo Switch for $4.99, with the Hare Force Edition update included.
How it works
Captain Rabbo Sunskipper flies over dry farmland with a plane full of seeds and water, and each level asks you to fill three carrot fields while Gale Gang falcons dive in through wind, rain and lightning. Barrel rolls, parries and loops keep a pilot in the air, but a level only ends when the soil turns green. Across four stages and four bosses, Winrose Warren grows from a starving warren into a thriving town.
A personal story
The game comes from Wondoro, the studio of husband-and-wife team Tim and Megan Bungeroth, who made it during their long road through infertility, working with freelance programmers, artists and musicians. Hence a game whose victories come from growing things. Even Arthur, the dog they adopted from a rescue, found his way into it.
What the Switch version brings
The Hare Force Edition takes the squadron to five pilots in local co-op: Rabbo and canine wingman Dirk Doggo are joined by Linnie Lightfoote, Betty Bunting and Candie Clayton, each with their own health, speed and ability. There are also high scoreboards for solo and co-op, three Carrot Achievements per level (including a no-aggression one) and a section with each pilot’s story. On PC, the game is available on Steam.
