Anyone who rented the Shrek 2 game in 2004, alongside the movie, will smile: Aspyr, in collaboration with Universal, has announced DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered, the definitive edition of that action-adventure, for November 10, 2026.

It launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Digital pre-orders are open now with a 10% discount, at $26.99 instead of $29.99 on every platform (PlayStation Plus is required for the discount on PS5).

What the remaster changes

The core is what players remember: Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and friends crossing the kingdom of Far Far Away, from Shrek’s swamp to the castle, with pick-up-and-play brawling and the movie’s humor. According to Aspyr, everything has been rebuilt with better textures, a new interface and revised cutscenes, with 4K resolution on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 when docked.

The changes go beyond visuals. You can swap heroes at any time on every platform, using each character’s abilities on bosses and puzzles. Co-op supports up to four players, on the couch, online or a mix of both. There is also a photo mode and a cheats menu for anyone who just wants to enjoy the story.

The timing is no accident either: the announcement reminds fans that Shrek 5 hits theaters on June 30, 2027. For anyone who grew up in the 2000s with a controller in hand, it is a chance to replay Shrek 2 with the whole family.
