What stands out in Tetra Rise is a simple, clever idea: every enemy you defeat turns into a solid block. Stack those blocks and they become your way up an abyss, while hordes of enemies and bosses try to knock you down. The game is from Tora Games, a Brazilian studio run by three brothers, and it has a free demo on Steam.
A family project, drawn by hand
A lovely detail: Tora Games is just the three of them. Hugo Dias handles the art, André the programming and game design, and Arthur the music and part of the backgrounds and menus. Everything is made independently, with hand-drawn art.
How it plays
Tetra Rise is a 2D action-platforming roguelite. You aim with the mouse, build loadouts of auto-firing weapons and decide where each block goes: the enemy in your way now becomes the step you need a moment later. You can see the care in how combat and platforming keep talking to each other.
The demo
The free demo includes the first area and the first boss, with Brazilian Portuguese text. The game took part in Steam Next Fest, which ends on Monday, October 26, and it has no release date yet; it is worth a wishlist.
