The Overwatch Season 5 mid-season update is here, and it is a sweet one: Blizzard brings the Reign of Talon story to its final showdown, adds a crossover with SHIFT UP’s Stellar Blade and gives Roadhog his first Mythic skin. All of it has been live since November 3.
Taking Reign: the end of the Talon story
The Taking Reign event runs from November 3 to December 7 and wraps up the game’s first year-long story, as Doomfist and Overwatch converge on Rialto to stop Vendetta once and for all. It has 24 tiers of rewards earned by playing and completing challenges. The Free Pass leads to an Epic Sigma skin recolor, and the Event Pass, for 1,000 Overwatch Coins, opens a path to the Legendary Resurgence Doomfist skin and a new Legendary weapon for Vendetta. Once purchased, the Event Pass can be finished later, including in Season 6.
Overwatch x EVE Protocol
Now the part that made my gamer heart skip a beat: the Overwatch x EVE Protocol crossover, featuring Stellar Blade characters, runs from November 3 to November 17. There are five skins: Widowmaker as EVE, D.Va as Lily, Freja as Raven, Vendetta as Tachy and Soldier: 76 as Adam. D.Va’s Lily is an Ultra skin with custom kill effects and a unique “Hello” emote, how cute is that, and her mech Tokki is based on the Providence final boss. The collab lands the same week Stellar Blade arrives on Switch 2, on November 5.
Mythic Roadhog and Loot Boxes
Mythic Necrotic Knight Roadhog is a cursed knight with an endless hunger for souls, with four levels of customization: Skull, Knight and Plague Doctor helmets, extra color palettes and effects such as spectral flames. For Loot Box fans, the Excavation Initiative returns from November 3 to December 7, with a Loot Box for three digs each week and a shot at Epic and Legendary boxes, and Junkrat’s Loot Hunt runs November 20 to 23: up to nine Loot Boxes, no daily reset and Double XP all weekend.
There is also the Black Friday Vault Sale through December 7, with curated bundles of rare cosmetics and the StarCraft Mega Bundle, Competitive and Quick Play Drives from December 3 to 7, and the OWCS World Finals Cheer Rally, tied to the finals in Guangzhou, also from December 3 to 7.
