Heads up: ArcheAge Chronicles, the open-world action MMORPG from South Korea’s XLGAMES, launched in Steam Early Access on Tuesday, November 3, at 3 PM PST, for $29.99 in North America, with regional pricing elsewhere. Built in Unreal Engine 5, it is set in Auroria, 50 years after the events of the original ArcheAge.
The full world of Auroria opens
According to XLGAMES, Early Access delivers a world roughly 20 times larger than the demo: more than 60 new areas, including most of the Diamond Shores, Gylden Ruins and Astron Plains, each region with its own story, quests, bosses and dungeons, plus more than 1,000 exploration and collection points. You can glide across the map, dive into underwater zones, team up for dungeons and raids or jump into PvP. All four classes are available (Warrior, Ranger, Berserker and Mage), and the housing, crafting and trade systems the series is known for arrive too.
If you followed the October Steam Next Fest, the game was in our part 3 of the demos worth downloading. XLGAMES says the demo hit No. 1 on the popular demos chart on day one and finished 5th on Valve’s Most Played Demos list. “Steam Next Fest showed us how many players are ready to return to Auroria, and the feedback they gave us made Chronicles a better game,” said Yongjin Ham, Executive Producer at XLGAMES.
Buy-to-play, with updates in December
ArcheAge Chronicles is buy-to-play, and XLGAMES says no items that give combat or progression advantages will be sold. Players who pre-ordered can claim the Dawn Pioneer Set, a costume set for the class of their choice, in-game now. The first major update arrives in December and starts removing gender locks, beginning with the female Warrior at character creation, along with a third weapon type per class, starting with the Gladius for the Warrior. The Steam page says Early Access should last about 9 to 12 months and that the price may change at full release.
The Steam page carries an AI-generated content disclosure: XLGAMES says AI tools were used only as a starting point for some visual assets (item icons, some UI images, parts of the world map, some 2D background decorations and weapon models), all edited by its art team, and that the Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese versions currently use AI-assisted translation as a provisional measure.
Ready to jump in? Minimum requirements call for 64-bit Windows 10, a Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce RTX 2060 Super or Radeon RX 6600 with 8 GB and 100 GB on an SSD, targeting 30 FPS at 1080p on Low with upscaling. The Steam language list currently shows English, Korean and Chinese. The game is on its official Steam page.
