Some games win you over with chaos, and Pit of Goblin is exactly that: a horror co-op game where you play a scrappy goblin diving into dungeons for food and treasure to feed the Goblin King-Queen. The game from Swedish indie studio Friendly Foe, published with Bright Gambit, left Early Access on Tuesday, November 3, with version 1.0 on PC and debuted on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, including Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

And the detail that stands out most: you can play together across every platform, with crossplay between PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Up to six goblins, no plan

Sessions bring together up to six players in randomized dungeons with secret rooms, valuable loot and creatures that would love a goblin for dinner. You can fight with weapons, spells and whatever objects are lying around, hide, or simply run. Teamwork is encouraged, but Friendly Foe itself warns that chaos is inevitable: setting a friend on fire, throwing things at each other and abandoning everyone when a monster shows up are part of the fun.

A lovely touch: proximity chat, which turns every scream in the dark into part of the game. There is also goblin customization, unlockable cosmetics, new biomes, a journal to fill, achievements and, yes, an ending for those who make it that far.

Two years of Early Access

Made by just four developers, Pit of Goblin entered Steam Early Access in December 2024 and has received more than 20 updates since, with new dungeons, enemies, weapons and magic shaped by player feedback. According to the publisher, it sold over 200,000 copies during that phase. The studio says it will keep supporting the game after 1.0.

The launch announcement lists the price at $7.99 / €7.99; at the time of checking, the US Steam page showed $5.99, with a 30% discount running until November 9.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
