Get ready for a scare: Look Outside, the survival horror RPG created by Francis Coulombe and published by Devolver Digital, is now available on PS4, PS5, Switch and Switch 2. It came out on PC last year and became an indie horror favorite, with an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam.
The premise is simple and cruel: the whole story takes place in a single apartment building twisted by indescribable cosmic horrors. You explore the floors for food, supplies and weapons, meet strange neighbors and fight monsters that were once the people who lived there. The main rule is in the title: whatever happens, don’t look outside.
Between runs, you return to your apartment with what you found and a few answers. There you can recover by playing video games, cooking dinner, crafting tools and getting to know the few allies you manage to bring to your side in this cursed place. Critics called Look Outside “one of the scariest games I’ve ever played” and “disturbing, grotesque, and uncomfortably wonderful.”
The console release lands right before Halloween, and Devolver, the publisher behind indie hits such as Hotline Miami, Inscryption and Cult of the Lamb, is once again backing an unusual horror game. For fans of horror that gets in your head rather than relying on cheap jump scares, it is a strong pick. Console players can now see what PC players have been talking about for a year, and the PC version is also on sale on Steam right now.
