What stands out about Queen’s Domain is its love for an often-forgotten FromSoftware era: before Dark Souls, the studio made King’s Field, slow, strange first-person RPGs full of secrets. The new game from duo Freshly Baked Games, published by Future Friends Games (CloverPit, Exo One), launched on Friday, October 30, on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2.

It is a retro-styled fantasy action RPG with brutal combat and traversal-focused exploration. You search for your father, who disappeared on the mysterious Isle of Neasied, where sinister forces gather, secrets hide everywhere and the sleeping Queen has begun to stir. A lovely detail: according to the publisher, the game reached launch with 300,000 Steam wishlists since its reveal last December.

The reception from press and creators is encouraging too. PC Gamer called it “just the thing for fans of classic FromSoftware games,” Rock Paper Shotgun described a “brilliant King’s Field-alike,” GameSpot predicted “this is gonna be a cult classic,” and YouTuber Iron Pineapple, known for souls-like videos, said “these devs really get it” in a video with more than 2 million views.

Queen’s Domain includes Brazilian Portuguese among its languages and launched with a 15% discount on Steam. It is also a rare simultaneous launch on four platforms for a two-person team, and a free demo is still available on Steam for anyone who wants to try it first. For anyone who loves quiet dungeons and maps that reward curiosity, the care in every corridor shows.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
