Phantom Blade Zero launched on PC and PS5 on the night of October 28, and the PC version came with a few important notes from S-GAME itself. Here are the official requirements, what the day-one patch changes, and the studio’s warning about NVIDIA drivers.

According to the official Steam page, the minimum is an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 1660 6 GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB, targeting 1080p at 30 frames per second with upscaling. Recommended goes up to an Intel Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X, 16 GB of RAM and a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB, for 1440p at 60 frames, also with upscaling. Either way, an SSD is required, on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11.

Before launch, S-GAME prepared a day-one patch of about 5 GB that significantly improves ray tracing and path tracing performance and fixes several bugs. Players who pre-loaded should install it before launching; anyone downloading now gets the latest version automatically.

The headline was the graphics driver. The studio saw performance instability with NVIDIA driver 621.01 and recommends rolling back to 617.42 with a clean install until NVIDIA ships its next driver, which S-GAME expects soon. The game supports the DLSS 4.5 suite, with Ray Reconstruction and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, on GeForce RTX cards.

For more modest PCs, S-GAME says it refined the non-ray-traced visuals to keep the art direction intact and tested the game on mid-range and lower-end machines as well as handhelds.

Hardware, PC and performance

Doutor Overclock claims a PhD in thermal dissipation; the diploma, curiously, has never left the lab. He covers hardware, PC requirements, performance patches and upscalers, and turns spec sheets into plain English. He apologizes in advance for the dry joke in the third paragraph.
