Bandai Namco revealed Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 during the Gundam Games 40th anniversary livestream. It follows Battle Operation 2 and keeps the same model: a free-to-play team battle game, now on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, with cross-play between both platforms from launch. A release date has not been announced.

Players sign up as mercenaries and pilot Mobile Suits in team battles, but infantry still matters: stepping out of the machine, raiding bases and clearing objectives on foot can swing a match. Balancing piloting with fighting as a soldier remains at the heart of the game.

The biggest visual change is the move to more realistic 3D graphics, with high-definition environments, characters and Mobile Suits. The roster also grows: at launch there will be units from the Universal Century and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, with more series planned later.

In combat, every unit gets SP Skills, special abilities that make each Mobile Suit feel more distinct. The interface was rebuilt, and the new Battle Assist feature simplifies complex maneuvers and combos, which should help newcomers.

The announcement trailer is already on Bandai Namco’s official channel, and the full Gundam Games anniversary stream is available on YouTube.

Battle Operation 2 debuted in 2018 on PlayStation 4 in Japan, reached the West the following year and later got PS5 and PC versions. It ran for years on steady updates and new Mobile Suits, and the sequel arrives to refresh that base with modern visuals and the promise of more universes from the franchise. Fans who stuck with the second game should keep an eye on news about carrying progress forward, which Bandai Namco has not addressed yet.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
