News that makes you want to grab a guitar: Bocchi the Rock! is getting a prequel film. Bocchi the Rock! Hoshi no Ashiato (“Starry Footprints”) opens in theaters in Japan in 2027, with no date yet, and the announcement came with a teaser visual and teaser trailer.

The story follows Nijika and her older sister Seika Ijichi (voiced by Maaya Uchida) chasing a different dream, before Kessoku Band was formed. It is based on a bonus chapter from the fifth volume of Aki Hamaji’s manga. Look at the team: Shin Wakabayashi (Wonder Egg Priority) directs, Erika Yoshida, who wrote the series, handles the script, and Yukiko Horiguchi (K-ON!) does the character designs, at studio CloverWorks. These are people who know how to animate the quiet between two notes.

Alongside the film, the staff announced the Kessoku Band ASIA TOUR 2027 “To Asia.”, starting in Osaka on March 13, 2027, then Seoul and Hong Kong in May. The previously announced second season of the anime is still in production. There is no word yet on an international release.
