Anyone who was there remembers the first The Elder Scrolls VI teaser at E3 2018: a landscape, some music and nothing else. Almost eight years later, the first concrete clue has surfaced. According to a note published by The Verge in its Notepad newsletter, the game’s subtitle is Sentinel, and the title could be revealed as soon as November. This is a rumor: Bethesda and Microsoft have not confirmed it or commented.
According to the report, picked up by outlets such as Insider Gaming and Kotaku, the November reveal would cover only the name, with other details saved for later, and would line up with Skyrim’s 15th anniversary, as the game launched on November 11, 2011. The game would be set in Hammerfell, the western province of Tamriel, and is described as “the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls,” helping uncover the secrets of the ancient artifacts that give the series its name.
The Sentinel name did not come out of nowhere. Sentinel is the capital of Hammerfell in the series’ lore, and fans had already been speculating about the word after it appeared in Starfield and after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma posted about the game using eight asterisks, the same number of letters as Sentinel.
The series is more than 30 years old, dating back to Arena in 1994. The report does not say whether the game will be exclusive to Xbox and PC or also come to PlayStation. Meanwhile, anyone feeling nostalgic can revisit Skyrim Special Edition on Steam. We will update this story if Bethesda comments.
