Attention, multiplayer test subjects: the experiment is loose. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched worldwide on Friday, October 23, with the campaign, multiplayer and the DMZ extraction mode all available from day one. No waiting for Season 1 to get the full package.
Multiplayer: 20 maps at launch
The question people keep searching for is when multiplayer comes out. Answer: it is already out, alongside the rest of the game. There are 20 maps at launch:
- 12 brand-new maps for 6v6;
- 4 Gunfight maps;
- 3 Ground War maps;
- Kill Block, a new modular training facility.
Twelve new arenas at once. The numbers, dear reader, are gloriously excessive, and I approve.
Campaign and DMZ
In the campaign, Captain Price is on the run as conflict breaks out on the Korean Peninsula, with a catastrophic weapon at risk of falling into the wrong hands. DMZ, which we covered in yesterday’s roundup, sends players behind enemy lines and forces choices: which objectives to take, what to carry and when to extract.
Price and editions
In Brazil the game starts at R$ 299.00 on PC and R$ 349.00 on consoles. The Vault Edition adds the Hunter Killer operator skin, the Hostile Alliance (Price, Valeria, Ghost and Blix) and Special Forces (UK, Germany, France and South Korea, with local-language voice packs) operator packs, and five weapon blueprints. Standard Edition pre-orders can be upgraded through each platform’s store. Vault Edition bonuses, the Blackcell Battle Pass and COD Points arrive in-game when Season 1 starts.
Discord integration
One more gadget: linking your Activision and Discord accounts shows your friends list and lets you invite them from inside the game, and linking earns a calling card. Anyone who linked during the beta needs to do it again, and also gets one hour of Double XP and one hour of Double Weapon XP. Muahaha.
