Heads up: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches today, October 23, and DMZ, the series’ new extraction mode, had already opened in early access on Tuesday (20). Activision used the occasion to explain how the mode’s threat levels, performance report and progression work.
Hajin and threat levels
In DMZ you drop into Hajin, an open world full of missions, resources to collect, AI enemies and rival Operators, and you only keep the rewards if you extract. Each Point of Interest has a threat level, from Low to Extreme, shown just below the compass. The higher it is, the more numerous and dangerous the enemies. The catch: the indicator does not count rival Operators, so ambushes are still your problem.
How you play matters too. Detected movement and gunfights can trigger retaliation, and in the hottest areas Activision recommends stealth kills with melee weapons, throwing knives or suppressed guns.
Report and progression
At the end of every infiltration, with or without a successful extraction, you get a four-part report. The Report lists items, 3D-printer materials, rarities and DMZ cash, which goes into the player’s bank. The Rating gives a grade from F to S++, based on objectives, combat and looting. The Level section shows progress through 70 player levels, and Dog Tags have 18 levels of their own, from Steel to Onyx III, each unlocking an Operator Trait. The Summary wraps up with completed DMZ Orders before you return to the Forward Operating Base.
If extraction shooters are your thing, Hajin is open.
