In May 2022, WB Games Montréal and Warner Bros. Games released a new Gotham Knights gameplay video, about 13 minutes long. The version below is the Portuguese-subtitled one, published by Warner’s Brazilian channel.

The video showed two of the four protagonists, Nightwing and Red Hood, in detail, with developer commentary on each one’s abilities and the gameplay mechanics in the game.

Around the same time, Warner Bros. Games confirmed that the game would no longer be released on the previous generation. Those with a PS4 or Xbox One were left out; the versions kept were PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. According to the studio, the decision aimed to deliver the best possible gameplay experience.

The premise had been known since DC FanDome in August 2020: Batman is dead, and it falls to Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin and Red Hood to protect Gotham while investigating the Court of Owls, a secret society trying to control the city. The campaign can be played solo or in two-player online co-op. The game comes from the same studio as Batman: Arkham Origins, but has its own story, separate from the Arkham series. The release was set, at that point, for October 25, 2022.

What came next

Gotham Knights came out on October 21, 2022. The reception was mixed: critics liked the co-op and the characterization of the four heroes, but criticized the mission design, the combat and the story. On consoles, the game was locked at 30 frames per second. In November 2022 it got the Heroic Assault mode, a four-player co-op.
