Call of Duty and EA Sports FC, along with other games, could see a big drop in players when GTA 6 comes out.

That is according to an article published on GamesIndustry.biz, using data from a games consultancy called Open World.

The site assessed the risk GTA 6 poses to other games and reported that competitive shooters and sports games are the most at risk of losing players when GTA 6 launches.

A quick summary:

  • 69% of PC and console players plan to play the next Grand Theft Auto.
  • Call of Duty, Battlefield, Apex Legends, Fortnite, EA Sports FC and NBA 2K are the games most likely to lose players.
  • Counter-Strike 2 was considered an outlier, since it has no console version and its audience has less intention of playing GTA 6 at launch.
  • The report recommends that companies avoid big paid marketing campaigns during the period when GTA 6 is the big new thing.
  • In the US, GTA 6 is estimated to have already passed 6 million units sold in pre-orders on digital stores.
