On January 29, 2022, less than a week before launch, Techland published a video showing Dying Light 2 Stay Human running on previous-generation consoles. Until then, the promotional material had come almost entirely from the PC and new-generation versions.
It was not a direct comparison with PS5 and Xbox Series, but it was the first time gameplay on PS4 and Xbox One had been seen. The video also indicated that the game would have enhancements for the stronger models of that generation, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
The wait had been long. Announced at E3 2018, Dying Light 2 once had a window for early 2020, was delayed without a date, then set for December 7, 2021 and, in September 2021, pushed to February 4, 2022. The pitch was an open city, Villedor, with the parkour and melee combat of the first game and a narrative of choices that change the map itself. Techland also promised support for at least five years after launch.
The launch did stay at February 4, 2022, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. A cloud version for Nintendo Switch had also been announced, but without the same date.
What came next
Dying Light 2 received generally favorable reviews, with praise for the combat, parkour and open world and criticism of the story. It sold 5 million units in the first month. New Game Plus mode followed in April 2022, the Bloody Ties expansion in November 2022 and, in 2025, Dying Light: The Beast, which started as DLC and became a standalone game. The cloud version for Switch, promised within six months of launch, had still not come out in early 2026.
