On January 4, 2022, while PS Plus already had its games for the month set, Sony’s other subscription service, PlayStation Now, received six new titles in its catalog:

  • Mortal Kombat 11
  • Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age
  • Fury Unleashed
  • Unturned
  • Super Time Force Ultra
  • Kerbal Space Program: Enhanced Edition

For fighting fans, the highlight was Mortal Kombat 11, from NetherRealm, with its time-manipulation story and a cast that mixes veterans and newcomers. Seeing a game of this size in a subscription catalog was a good invitation to train without rushing.

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age is the remaster of the RPG set in Ivalice, following Princess Ashe and the resistance against the empire. Fury Unleashed is a shooter roguelike with local and online co-op; Unturned, a zombie survival sandbox with servers for up to 24 friends; Super Time Force Ultra, an action-platformer with time travel across six eras; and Kerbal Space Program: Enhanced Edition, the space program simulator with realistic orbital physics.

At the time, PS Now was not officially offered in Brazil. The service mixed cloud streaming, which even covered PS3 games, with downloads of PS2 and PS4 games to play locally on the PS4 or PS5.

What came next

PS Now did not last much longer. In December 2021, Bloomberg was already talking about a merger project; in March 2022 Sony confirmed the new PlayStation Plus in three tiers, and between May and June 2022 the standalone PS Now subscription was ended, with its features absorbed by the Premium tier. In Brazil, Sony offers the Essential, Extra and Deluxe tiers; Deluxe is the variant of the top tier for markets without cloud streaming.
