In September 2021, publishers Playism and WSS Playground announced that Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth would arrive on consoles in December, first in Japan. It is a metroidvania based on Ryo Mizuno’s Record of Lodoss War series, a fantasy franchise that got novels and a well-regarded anime.

The game debuted in early access on Steam in March 2020 and received its full version a year later, on March 27, 2021, with the fifth and sixth stages and several tweaks requested by players. In July, a final update brought a boss rush mode, new game+ and achievements. By the end of April 2021, the game had sold about 100 thousand copies on PC.

The console version would come out in digital format for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, with several language options, including Brazilian Portuguese, as well as Korean, Chinese, Italian and German. There would also be a physical edition, only for PS4, PS5 and Switch, and the first units would come with an extra disc with the soundtrack and an illustration book.

In gameplay, the player controls the elf Deedlit in a labyrinth full of ancient enemies and companions, with clear inspiration from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The most interesting detail comes from Ikaruga: Deedlit alternates between two elemental spirits, Sylph, of wind, and Salamander, of fire. Each one changes the attacks, absorbs one type of damage and levels up with the souls of enemies. It takes calm and attention to switch at the right moment. The game was made by Team Ladybug, of Touhou Luna Nights, with supervision from Mizuno himself.

What came next
The console versions came out on December 16, 2021, and the game also joined Xbox Game Pass. The Western Switch version was delayed and arrived on January 28, 2022. On Switch, reception was favorable, and critics praised the pixel art, the bosses and the soundtrack.
