Some dogs never leave their owners, even after they pass, and some dogs never leave the house. Shiba Inu Rooms (Shiba-tsuki Bukken, roughly “apartment with a Shiba included”), Esu Omori‘s manga, is getting a TV anime premiering in summer 2027 in Japan. The news came out on Sunday (November 1), and not by chance: November 1 is “Wan Wan Wan Day” in Japan, the woof-woof-woof day.

A student, an apartment and a Shiba ghost

The story follows Kori, a high schooler who moves into an apartment and finds out it is haunted by Mu, the ghost of a Shiba Inu. The two are fire and ice and always at odds, and the question is whether they can learn to live together and maybe even become friends. Anyone who has shared a home with a real Shiba knows the stubbornness is not the author’s invention.

Cast and staff

Niina Nakabayashi plays Kori Momose and Mutsumi Tamura voices Mu. Osamu Yamasaki directs at TMS Entertainment, and Rio (trapezium) designs the characters. Producer Wright Film made the announcement, and the author drew a special illustration to celebrate.

From one-shot to Shonen Jump+

Shiba Inu Rooms started as a one-shot in 2023 and became a series on Shonen Jump+ in June 2024. Shueisha publishes the ninth volume on November 4. In English, Viz Media has released the series digitally since January 2025 and shipped the first print volume on September 1; the chapters are also on MANGA Plus.
