Some numbers say a lot about a series, and the one 2K and Gearbox Software announced on Monday is one of them: the Borderlands franchise has officially crossed 100 million units sold. To celebrate, games across the series are on sale for a limited time on each platform’s store.

The sale

On Steam, Borderlands 4 is currently $34.99, 50% off its $69.99 list price (checked on November 3). 2K did not give an end date for the sale and points players to each platform’s store for details. The game launched in September 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Borderlands 4’s first year

The announcement also wraps up Borderlands 4’s Year 1 roadmap. Over those 12 months the game added two Story Packs, five Bounty Packs, two new Vault Hunters, two free Raid Boss encounters and the “Takedown” endgame raid, plus a long list of features, quality-of-life updates and optimizations. What stands out is that Gearbox is not closing the door: the team is already working on more Borderlands 4 content for 2027 and says it is exploring new character arcs, storylines and an overall direction for the future of the franchise.

In the meantime, Weekly Activity refreshes and Community Challenges continue. The studio encourages players to share feedback on social media and to follow the Gearbox Devcast, its video series on how the game is made.

The Hunt returns with matched donations

Starting November 6, the community takes part in The Hunt again, the long-running Borderlands fan fundraiser. Earlier this year the event raised a record $118,995.80 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which treats and researches childhood diseases. This time, 2K Foundations and Gearbox will match every dollar donated up to the previous record, which could push the total past $230,000. A lovely detail to round off the celebration.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
