After a few delays, Witchbrook finally has a date. Chucklefish, the publisher behind Starbound and Wargroove, announced during the Nintendo Indie World that its magical life sim launches on January 28, 2027 on PC and consoles. It is the company’s fourth in-house game, with development support from Robotality.
The announcement came with a new gameplay trailer showing a witchcraft student’s routine: attending classes, casting spells, studying, sitting exams and putting new knowledge to work. It also shows the library, salve and potion making, tarot readings and a first look at some of the game’s magical creatures.
Witchbrook follows the Stardew Valley style of life sims, but swaps the farm for a magic school in a seaside town. Players split their time between studies, friendships with the townsfolk and the chores of an apprentice witch, with the calendar and seasons setting the pace.
The game was first shown several years ago and became one of the most anticipated indies in the genre. A January date puts the launch early in the year, away from the crowded holiday season.
The exact console lineup should be confirmed closer to launch; for now, the Steam page already lets players add the game to their wishlist.
Chucklefish is known for publishing the original PC release of Stardew Valley, and Witchbrook carries that genre heritage. The game was revealed in 2019 and its launch slipped more than once while the team expanded the school, the town and the daily activities. Fans of cozy life sims now have a firm date to circle on the calendar.
