If you haven’t played Hell Clock yet, now is a good time. The action roguelite from Brazilian studio Rogue Snail (published by Mad Mushroom) turns the War of Canudos (1896–1897) into a descent through Purgatory and Hell, and since July it’s complete on every platform: PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, along with the Cursed War expansion.

Hell Clock, Brazilian roguelite by Rogue Snail

Canudos like you’ve never seen it

You play Pajeú, who descends through a Purgatory and Hell shaped from Canudos to recover his mentor’s soul. A magical clock limits each descent, hence the name. Combat feels like Diablo at roguelite pace: plenty of loot, buildcrafting and permanent progression between runs through skills, blessed gear and relics. There’s also a Relaxed Mode for players who want to focus on the story.

Cursed War: Pajeú’s origin

The expansion, released July 9, 2026, adds a new act about Pajeú’s past in the Paraguayan War, with 10+ new environments (including the Swamp, the Blood River and Campo Grande), new skills such as Tupã’s Wrath, dozens of relics and new bosses. The endgame gained Endless Nightmares, the full Ascension system and Path of Exile-style crafting.

Made in Brazil

Hell Clock is fully voiced and subtitled in Brazilian Portuguese, and Brazilian Steam reviews rate it “Overwhelmingly Positive” at 96%. The base game costs US$19.99 and the expansion US$9.99.
