Moonlighter 2 is an indie game that doesn’t call attention to itself. A simple game. And in an industry that only wants to tell epic tales, that is exactly its best quality.

What the game is
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is developed by Digital Sun, published by 11 bit studios, and came out on PC, on Steam, on September 2, 2026. You are the owner of an item shop who cuts out the middleman: you go into the dungeon yourself to collect the items you will sell, and keep 100% of the profit.
The game has three worlds with two stages each, and small objectives inside them. At heart, the idea is to sell more every time you come back to base.
Gameplay
The game draws on several classics, specifically The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You can tell that much of the interface was taken from and inspired by that Zelda.
It is a game that isn’t ashamed to be a game. In an era when everyone, or at least every big company, wants to release an epic tale, it is clear the industry has lost track of what a game’s real scope is. Moonlighter 2 stays exactly in its place as a game, and that is wonderful: it doesn’t try to be much more than it really is.
The story is told in a very honest, very simple way, and it doesn’t get in the way. You don’t need to get attached to it to play without a problem. It was a great call, both because the character doesn’t take up a political career or preach anything and because the game really nails its theme. The gameplay offers a satisfying enough loop.
Visuals, sound and performance
The music doesn’t stand out, and the graphics are very simple. The game has some technical issues, but nothing that hurts the experience too much.
