Kingdom Hearts IV announced by Square Enix

Kingdom Hearts IV was suddenly announced by Square Enix on a Sunday morning, along with another new game in the franchise.

Watch the trailer below:

The trailer runs more than 7 minutes and shows 3 games:

  • Kingdom Hearts Union X Dark Road (Android/iOS)
  • Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link (Android/iOS)
  • Kingdom Hearts IV (no platform announced)

The first two are for Android and iOS phones, and can be ignored.

The real star of the trailer is the confirmation that KH4 is already in development.

From the announcement, you can see the graphical style became more realistic, including Sora, the scenery, the NPCs and also the enemy that appears.

With things at Square being a bit of a mess, only the Gods know when this KH4 will be released. The trailer gives no date or release window.

The trailer was released at an event held in Tokyo, celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

Fun fact:

At the end of March, Tetsuya Nomura started creating a new illustration to show at the series’ 20th anniversary celebration, but could not finish it in time, so he released it incomplete anyway, lol

The first Kingdom Hearts was released for PlayStation 2 on March 28, 2002, in Japan only.

Only in September of the same year did the North American version come out, with English audio and subtitles.
