Look at this phenomenon! Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, a simulator from independent studio Brigada Games, passed 200,000 wishlists on Steam and entered the Top 200 most wishlisted games. In the first 5 days alone, it got 165,000. A good part of the push came from short videos that add up to more than 50 million views on TikTok and YouTube.

Who gets in, who stays out

You run a checkpoint in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. You have to inspect survivors and decide between letting refugees in or eliminating possible threats, as well as expanding and defending the base against hordes of the undead. Choices have permanent consequences, and one mistake can doom innocents or trigger a catastrophe.

The demo arrives on May 22. Steam page: Quarantine Zone: The Last Check.

Our take

It is fascinating to see how the Papers, Please-style premise with zombies works perfectly in short video: each inspection is already a small suspense scene. The challenge now is for the demo to show that the tension lasts longer than 30 seconds.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
