Some community contests end up as just a list of names, and some show how much a game inspires people. Los Angeles-based Loric Games announced on May 7, 2025 the winners of the Echoes of Elysium Airship Building Contest, and the result is a good one.

How the contest went

Participants used Echoes of Elysium: Airship Builder, a free tool on Steam, to create everything from floating cities to powerful battleships. The development team itself picked the winners, based on visual art, originality and the care of the execution. What stands out is the scale: the ships submitted went far beyond a little boat with a balloon.

The finalists

Four airships made it to the final:

  • Marauder Shields, with the Crimson Banshee;
  • Monsieur TT, with the Cuncuna;
  • jackyzilla, with The Molduga;
  • jennifernapier, with The Leviathan.

Each finalist wins an exclusive game T-shirt and a Steam key for the full game at launch.

The grand winner

First place went to Merlin The Wizard and the ship Pathendrax. According to Loric, the project balanced aesthetics and engineering and captured the spirit, scale and imagination of Echoes of Elysium. The prize is a nice touch: besides the T-shirt and the key, Merlin will receive a 3D-printed model of his own ship.

As a thank-you to the community, the studio also selected twenty other participants, who will receive a free key for the game at launch.

You can still build

Anyone who missed the contest can keep creating, because Airship Builder remains available for free on Steam. The main game is on the Echoes of Elysium page.

What came next

Echoes of Elysium entered Steam early access on January 27, 2026, published by Snail Games USA. On the store, it is described as a cooperative survival RPG for up to six players, in which the airship is home, workshop and war machine. The page lists a Brazilian Portuguese interface.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
