Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising will have 2B from NieR Automata

Cygames showed several new things for Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising at the franchise’s annual event.

At an event called Granblue Fes 2023, Cygames unveiled several new things for its latest game: Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising.

First, the news that caught everyone by surprise was the announcement that the famous 2B (YoRHa No.2 Type B) from NieR: Automata, will be a playable character.

As far as I remember, 2B is the first guest character from another universe to be part of a game developed by Arc System Works using the modified version of Unreal Engine, which brings these MARVELOUS GRAPHICS made in 3D CELLSHADING simulating 2D sprites.

Sure, in this case Cygames is the publisher and handles all the bureaucratic part such as licensing and agreements and so on, and ArkSys is the one that actually gets its hands dirty in development, but who knows, this may point to a possible trend for the medium-term future.

Ever thought about a character from SNK or Capcom coming as DLC in a future Guilty Gear Strive Season Pass?

Back to GBVSR, 2B will be the second character added to the game via DLC, and will be released at the end of February 2024.

The first DLC character is the cloven-hoofed one, the one with seven skins, the father of lies, none other than Lucifer. (I’m a noob in the franchise and I don’t know why some Japanese names are different from the Western names).

Lucifer, or Lucilius as he is called in the West, will be made available on January 16, 2024 for those who bought the Deluxe edition of the game, or own Deluxe Character Pass 1. But he will also be sold separately for anyone who wants to buy him.

And last but not least, Cygames released a chart with the scheduled updates for the game, announcing two more characters that will be made available after 2B.

Vane arrives sometime in April 2024, and Beatrix arrives in May 2024. For these two characters, only the renders with the characters’ looks were released, with no gameplay video.
