Tekken 8 will bring a first-of-its-kind feature to fighting games

Tekken 8 shows a first-of-its-kind fighting game feature in Bandai Namco's two-hour Tokyo Game Show 2023 panel, among other news.

Tekken 8
Tekken 8 had a two-hour panel at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, showing several new things.

First, here is the video with the full presentation:

In the video, Bandai Namco showed the opening part of Tekken 8’s Story Mode, and then broke down several elements that will be in the game.

In My Replay and Tips mode, when you are watching one of your own replays, you will be able to control your character for 10 seconds at any point in the replay, and test whether you could do something different from what is recorded in the replay.

Just like Street Fighter VI, Tekken 8 will also bring a type of control called Special Style, a more simplified control type, so that people who are not used to the often complex commands of fighting games can have fun doing combos and special moves in an easier way.

There will also be a Character Episode, which will be a kind of Arcade Mode for each of the characters, telling a “What If it were like this…” type of story.

The character Panda was also announced, but there is no gameplay video yet. At Bandai Namco’s booth at TGS 2023, a Panda statue was placed on the stage.

Tekken 8 is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC, and will be released early next year, on January 26.
