During the Silent Hill Transmission, aired on October 19, 2022, Konami confirmed the most talked-about rumor of the previous months: Silent Hill 2 would get a remake, for PlayStation 5, as a 12-month console exclusive, and for PC.
The remake was being made by Bloober Team, the Polish studio known for horror games such as The Medium, using Unreal Engine 5. Creative direction went to Mateusz Lenart of Bloober, and production to Motoi Okamoto of Konami. To reassure fans, Konami also confirmed the return of two names from the original game: Masahiro Ito, the creature designer, and Akira Yamaoka, the composer. Ito contributed concept art of locations and monsters, and Yamaoka returned for the soundtrack. The release date had not yet been announced.
Silent Hill 2 originally came out in 2001 for PlayStation 2, made by Team Silent. The game follows James Sunderland, a widower who goes to the town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his dead wife. It was the series’ first major game in a decade: since Silent Hill: Book of Memories in 2012 and the cancellation of Silent Hills, the franchise had been idle. The remake was Konami’s first step in bringing the series back, announced together with Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, Silent Hill: Ascension and the film Return to Silent Hill.
What came next
The Silent Hill 2 remake was released on October 8, 2024 for PS5 and PC and arrived on Xbox Series X|S on November 21, 2025. Critical reception was generally positive, with praise for the story, visuals, atmosphere, performances and faithfulness to the original. The game sold more than a million units in four days and passed 5 million copies in January 2026.
