On October 17, 2022, Capcom confirmed a new Resident Evil Showcase for October 20, at 7 p.m. Brasília time. The promised agenda: the Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition. Capcom also enabled co-streaming of the event for anyone who wanted to broadcast along.
Village’s Gold Edition was only days from release. It brings together the game and the Winters’ Expansion, with the new story Shadows of Rose, starring Rose Winters, Ethan’s daughter, a third-person camera mode for the main campaign and new playable characters in Mercenaries mode: Chris Redfield, Lady Dimitrescu and Karl Heisenberg.
The Resident Evil 4 remake, due in 2023, was the big reason for curiosity: fans wanted to see more of the game after the first trailer.
Horror fans were well served at the end of that year. Konami had announced a special broadcast with Silent Hill news; The Callisto Protocol, directed by Glen Schofield, creator of Dead Space, would come out on December 2; and the Dead Space remake was set for January 2023.
What came next
At the showcase, Capcom showed a second trailer and more gameplay of the Resident Evil 4 remake. The Gold Edition and the Winters’ Expansion arrived on October 28, 2022, the same date the Re:Verse multiplayer mode finally came out, after almost a year and a half of delay, and on which Village got macOS versions and cloud versions for the Switch.
The Resident Evil 4 remake was released on March 24, 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and passed 10 million copies in April 2025, becoming for a good while the fastest-selling Resident Evil.
