On October 8, 2022, Atlus made a special announcement: Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden would come to current platforms on January 19, 2023. The versions were confirmed for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with both games included in Game Pass, plus PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

For those who did not follow the two games’ history: Persona 3 came out in 2006 on PlayStation 2, and Persona 3 Portable is the improved version released for PSP in 2009 in Japan. One of the appeals of this version is the option to play as a female protagonist, which changes some parts of the story. Persona 4 debuted in 2008, also on the PS2, and Persona 4 Golden, the expanded edition, came out on PlayStation Vita in 2012 and reached PC, via Steam, in June 2020.

The announcement was part of a bigger move by Atlus toward other platforms. Persona 5 Royal, until then tied to PlayStation, had already been confirmed for Xbox, Switch and PC, set for October 21, 2022 and also on Game Pass, at no additional cost for subscribers.

What came next

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden were released on January 19, 2023, as promised. The series kept renewing itself: Persona 3 Reload, a full remake of Persona 3, came out in February 2024 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and got a Nintendo Switch 2 version in October 2025. A Persona 4 remake, called Persona 4 Revival, is set for February 2027.
