Racing, swords and even a game from a Microsoft studio: on August 31, 2022, Sony revealed September’s PlayStation Plus games, across all three subscription tiers. It was the third full month of the new PS Plus, launched in late June with the Essential, Extra and Deluxe plans.
On PS Plus Essential, the monthly games were available from September 6 to October 3:
- Need for Speed Heat (PS4): street racing in Palm City, with official competitions by day and illegal street races at night;
- Granblue Fantasy: Versus (PS4): Arc System Works’ fighting game, with an original-story RPG mode;
- Toem (PS5): a hand-drawn adventure in which the player solves characters’ problems by taking photos.
On PS Plus Extra and Deluxe, the catalog received on September 20:
- Deathloop (PS5);
- Assassin’s Creed Origins (PS4);
- Watch Dogs 2 (PS4);
- Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (PS4);
- Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition (PS4);
- Chicory: A Colorful Tale (PS4);
- Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame 5 (PS4 and PS5);
- Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX (PS4 and PS5);
- Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show (PS4);
- Rayman Legends (PS4);
- Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition.
Only on PS Plus Deluxe, among the classics, came the PS1 game Syphon Filter 2, with improved rendering, a rewind function, quick save and video filters.
The “Microsoft” game was Deathloop, from Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored, which became part of Microsoft with the ZeniMax acquisition. In the game, the assassin Colt is trapped in a time loop on the island of Blackreef and has to eliminate eight targets before the day restarts, while another player can invade the match as Julianna to stop him. For fighting game fans, Granblue Fantasy: Versus was a great reason to claim the month.
Those who had not yet grabbed August’s games had until September 1 to claim Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and Little Nightmares.
