On May 27, 2022, during Star Wars Celebration, Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment unveiled Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

The story takes place five years after the first game and again follows Jedi Knight Cal Kestis, played by Cameron Monaghan. EA showed a CG teaser:

The target was 2023, and the game would not be cross-gen: the announcement confirmed only PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The sequel’s existence had already been confirmed in January 2022, and Stig Asmussen returned as director.

As in Fallen Order, the formula mixes lightsaber combat and Force powers, platforming and puzzles, in a structure inspired by metroidvanias. The team wanted to greatly expand the scale and bring new features such as companions controlled by artificial intelligence. It would also be EA’s last game under the ten-year exclusivity deal with Lucasfilm for Star Wars games.

What came next

In December 2022, at The Game Awards, EA set the release for March 17, 2023, but in January the game was delayed to April 28, 2023, for final polish. Critics approved, with 88% recommendation on OpenCritic, and many considered it better than its predecessor; the PC version, however, was heavily criticized for performance problems. It was a commercial success and, on September 17, 2024, got PS4 and Xbox One versions. A third game, which will close the trilogy, is in production.
