Racing, shooting and brawling: that sums up PlayStation Plus’s monthly games for January 2022, confirmed by Sony on December 29, 2021, as the previous week’s rumors had already indicated. All three were available to subscribers from Tuesday, January 4, until February 1:
- Persona 5 Strikers (PS4);
- Dirt 5 (PS4 and PS5);
- Deep Rock Galactic (PS4 and PS5).
Persona 5 Strikers is the brawling part. The game mixes Atlus’s Persona series with the real-time action combat of Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors, and was made by Omega Force with P-Studio. The story takes place half a year after Persona 5 and follows Joker and the Phantom Thieves on a trip across Japan, investigating strange events in various cities.
Dirt 5 handles the racing: it is a rally and off-road game with a career mode, split screen for up to four players, online multiplayer and a track creator, with more than 70 routes in 10 places around the world, from frozen New York to Norway under the aurora borealis. Deep Rock Galactic rounds out the package with shooting: a cooperative FPS for up to four players, with space dwarves, fully destructible environments, procedurally generated caves and hordes of aliens.
Those who hadn’t yet claimed December’s games had until Monday, January 3: Godfall: Challenger Edition, Lego DC Super-Villains and Mortal Shell, plus three PS VR bonuses: The Persistence, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Standard Edition and Until You Fall.
What came next
That was one of the last months of PS Plus in its old format. Between May and June 2022, Sony merged PS Plus and the PlayStation Now streaming service into a new PS Plus with three subscription tiers, and PS Now became part of the Premium tier.
