On November 4, 2021, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware released a preview of Elden Ring with about 19 minutes of new gameplay footage. For those following the project since its announcement, it was the chance to calmly see how Hidetaka Miyazaki’s new game worked in practice.

The video is age-restricted on YouTube, so it may not play embedded here; in that case, just watch it directly on YouTube.

Elden Ring was revealed at E3 2019 and stayed practically silent for two years until getting a new trailer in June 2021. The building of the world, the Lands Between, had the collaboration of writer George R. R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, while FromSoftware brought to the open world the demanding combat school it created in Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro.

At that moment, the release was set for January 21, 2022, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and Bandai Namco was preparing a closed test for November, with sign-ups open to the public. It was a game surrounded by expectation, and the video helped show that it was well founded.

What came next

Shortly after, the release was delayed to February 25, 2022. Elden Ring arrived with performance problems, gradually fixed by updates, but the result was historic: it sold 13.4 million copies through the end of March 2022, passed 30 million in April 2025 and accumulated more than 300 Game of the Year awards, including the top one at The Game Awards 2022.

The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion came out in June 2024, also acclaimed and with more than 10 million copies sold. In 2025 came the multiplayer spin-off Elden Ring Nightreign, and on August 28, 2026 the game arrived on the Nintendo Switch 2 as Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, with the expansion included. A movie based on the game is also in production.
