Anyone who grew up playing cards at the kitchen table will feel right at home. What if every attack were a poker hand? That’s the idea behind Rogue Quest, a roguelike deckbuilder from Curds & Crowns that has been in Steam Early Access since May.

Rogue Quest, poker roguelike deckbuilder

Poker in a cursed spire

You climb a procedurally generated cursed spire, and your damage depends on the hand you make, across 10 ranks from a pair to a royal flush. Along the way, the map offers shops, rests, events, mystics and elite enemies.

  • 5 classes, each with its own cards and mastery track
  • 88 Power Cards (up to 5 per run)
  • Card forging and transmutation at the blacksmith
  • Town upgrades that persist between runs

Early Access

Early Access is planned to last 6 to 12 months, with the price rising along the way. It runs on Windows and Mac. If you liked Balatro and want something more RPG, keep an eye on it.

Rogue Quest on Steam

Back in rental-store days nobody pictured poker and dungeon crawling on the same cartridge; today it’s just a Steam page away.

He covers remasters, remakes, collections and series anniversaries, always remembering where each game came from. Ask him his age and he answers in console generations.
